Frida & Diego
Frida Kahlo the Mexican painter created striking, often shocking, images that reflected her turbulent life. She began to paint while recovering from a streetcar accident that left her permanently disabled. Frida relentlessly transferred her physical and psychological pain to the canvas.
Interplays Frida & Diego, written by Greg Cullen, will transcend straight biography to create a passionate, impressionistic look at an artist whose life and work, both tragic and triumphant, increasingly speak to the sensibilities of today.
‘Frida & Diego’ takes as its starting point the mural ‘A Dream of Sunday Afternoon in Alameda Park’. The painting slowly comes to life on stage and what seems like a simple depiction of people at play shifts to reveal a darker side as Death steps forward to claim Frida.
